Lake Como is one of the most beautiful and popular places to visit in Italy. It is an upscale resort area known for its stunning scenic beauty. In all honesty, there is nothing like it! Without a doubt, the lake itself is a beautiful sight. What’s more, the dramatic backdrop of the Alps makes it even more breathtaking. You will definitely find jaw-dropping natural beauty here. The lake boasts a coastline of scenic, charming towns, elegant old villas, and amazing private homes. Make sure to visit Bellagio, Varenna and Como among others. Say YES to Lake Como Italy, as you will definitely fall in love with everything it has to offer.
Getting to Lake Como
You can conveniently travel to Lake Como from Milan with a direct 1-hour train ride. Your destination station will be the historic city of Como. Lake Como is shaped like an upside down letter Y, and Como is at the tip of the southwest leg. From Como, you can take ferries or hydrofoils everywhere along the lake. Lake Como is alive with charming villages to visit and explore along the shore.
If you have a rental car, driving around the entire lake would take 4 hours.
Villages on the Lake
Como city is a delightful, lively place to explore. It is filled with culture and history. You’ll find beautiful piazzas, historic villas and it’s worth a visit on your way up the lake. Moreover, it has great shopping and delicious restaurants. You can explore the city and partake in fun activities. For instance, take the funicular up to the cute mountain town of Brunate, and enjoy the view. From Como, use the public ferry service which connects all the major villages along the shores of the lake. Visit Navigazione Laghi to see schedules and costs.
Explore the Towns
There are so many attractive, charming towns along the lake. Notably, Bellagio, which is a perfect choice as my home base. A fast speed ferry got us there in 40 minutes. Bellagio has stunning scenery and is known as the Pearl of Lake Como. You’ll enjoy fine dining, wine tastings, a flower filled promenade and great boutiques. Moreover, it’s in a great central location, between the two legs of the Y. We simply walked onto a ferry every day to explore the uniqueness of other towns.
Varenna is absolutely worth visiting! It has a charming old town, botanical gardens and gorgeous villas, all on a stunning lakeside location. What’s more, you can visit a medieval castle with jaw-dropping panoramic views. Varenna is another of the most beautiful and most picturesque towns of Lake Como. So yes, it’s absolutely a must.
Lake Como Italy is loved by many people, you will fall under the spell too! I would definitely spend a few days here, if not an entire week!
